Paperweight statue with the image of Bosatsu Jizo Buddha.

Jizo is a representation of Japan's most revered Buddha. He is on the one hand the guardian of travelers and on the other hand the protector of children and motherhood. Traditionally the Japanese make numerous offerings of food to him. They dress his statue with a scarf and a woolen hat so that he does not get cold and also a red bib to prevent him from getting stained.
