The word orizuri, literally ori – folded and zuru – crane, refers to the paper crane made according to the art of origami. It is an iconic design that represents a Manchurian crane, a large wading bird revered in Asia, particularly in Japan.
Remember the good omens associated with cranes every time you light an incense! First of all, it is a symbol of longevity because they can live up to 40 years, a great age for birds. As they fiercely defend their nest against predators, the Japanese consider that they bring protection and good fortune to the family. They also believe that souls on their way to heaven travel on their wings.
