There is a Buddhist pilgrimage in Japan as famous as the Camino de Santiago in Europe. It links 88 sacred places on Shikoku Island in a loop for nearly 1,200 kilometers. The path follows in the footsteps of the scholarly monk Kôbô Daishi, a native of the region and founder of esoteric Shingon Buddhism. The inhabitants of the island welcome and accompany the pilgrims with reverence and generosity and participate in the special atmosphere of this journey.

The author, Sophie Lavaur, walked alone for fifty days on this path connecting the 88 temples. Under the sun or in the rain and in the wind, in the mountains, by the sea or on country roads, meeting pilgrims and inhabitants, it was carried by the authenticity of the pilgrimage.

In this book, she has gathered, in images and words, snapshots and impressions that bear witness to her inner adventure. She shares with us the succession of these imperceptible moments when everyday life becomes extraordinary. Photos, haikus, descriptive texts reflect this meditative journey to the heart of Japan today and forever.
